Sigma win Best Marketing Campaign (Distribution)

Sigma won Best Marketing Campaign (Distribution) at the CRN Sales and Marketing Awards 2016.

Once again ousting the absurd view that technology companies can’t thrive in Devon, Sigma Software Distribution in Ashburton has won yet another national award for our work in the IT industry.

Hosted by comedian and regular guest on ’Have I got News for You’  Mark Watson, the CRN Sales and Marketing Awards are the annual celebration of the marketing successes in the software sales industry, with a number of hotly contested titles battled over by billion pound industry giants and dynamic small businesses, such as Sigma.

The category of ‘Best Marketing Campaign’ was incredibly tough, with Sigma up against the world’s largest IT distributor, the UK’s largest independent software distributor, the UK’s largest independent distributor of PC components and a company listed on the Fortune top 100 World’s Most Admired Companies. A truly David and Goliath situation for a company of 25 people in the Dartmoor National Park!

Oliver Christophers, Head of Communications for Sigma Software Distribution commented “The team has been overwhelmed with excitement since the CRN Awards ceremony; we’re all immensely proud of the recognition – having this affirmation from the judging panel has meant so much to Sigma.”

The judges stressed that while it was a difficult decision, Sigma was the natural choice for the award based on the creativity of our campaign and the enormous return on investment based on the cost of the campaign.

Marketing in the software industry has a reputation of being bland and prescribed. Sigma, as a small but growing company, need to take a creative approach to make our marketing stand out from the crowd against big budget campaigns. So we came up with a Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory inspired Software Factory campaign.

The chocolate factory campaign was a way to visualise the software development process in a fun way, with bright colours, cool graphics and lots of information. It also gave us the opportunity to showcase the multiple software products from Dell, Intel and SAP that we distribute and put some of the less known products on the map. The main focus of the campaign was direct mail, which today has proven more revolutionary than using online only because no one else is taking this approach anymore!
