Disk-based Backup and Deduplication
NetVault: Backup’s seamless integration with the NetVault: SmartDisk’s disk-based backup product and its data deduplication option protects your storage investment with its powerful byte-level variable block-based software deduplication which packs up to 12 times more protected data into the same storage area. NetVault: Backup enhances efficiency by consolidating virtual machine protection to give users a simple centralised, backup and recovery of virtual and physical environments for either VMware or Hyper-V. Easy to deploy and use, NetVault: Backup Virtualisation Plugins reduce complexity by enabling consistent, reliable point-and-click backup and restore activities without requiring you to be an expert.
Workstation Protection
NetVault: Backup Workstation Client expands NetVault: Backup enterprise-class data protection to workstations by protecting your investment in intellectual property stored on desktops and laptops using a shadowing process that creates local redundant copies to protect data against corruption and accidental deletion. Seamless integration with the NetVault: Backup Server protects the copies for long-term retention or disaster recovery. NetVault: Backup Workstation Client also maximises IT staff efficiency by enabling end-user recovery of data from the Shadow Area without the assistance of the backup administrator.
Advanced Security
NetVault: Backup's Encryption Plugin provides CAST-128, AES-256 and CAST-256 algorithm support options to meet regulatory requirements without sacrificing backup windows or deduplication performance. When installed on the NetVault: Backup (NVBU) Client, the NVBU Encryption Plugin encrypts and transfers data across the network to the backup device, where it remains encrypted until restored to the NVBU Client. If encryption is only required for secondary storage, NetVault: Backup’s job-level encryption gives you the choice to encrypt only the secondary copy while the primary backup remains unencrypted to shrink the backup window. When using NetVault: SmartDisk’s deduplication, NetVault: Backup’s job-level deduplication also gives you the choice to separate deduplicated from non-deduplicated unencrypted data for optimal deduplication ratios and performance.
Network Attached Storage Protection
NetVault: Backup lets you choose how to backup your NAS. You can send NDMP data directly to a locally attached SCSI device, a SAN-attached storage device or to a storage device elsewhere on the network. NetVault: Backup offers advanced NDMP features such as Browsable Volume and Direct Access Restore (DAR) support, which speeds restores with fast positioning to the right section of the tape.
SmartClient
NetVault: Backup SmartClient gives you the freedom to attach storage wherever you like. Both virtual and physical tape libraries can be easily distributed throughout the backup environment. Backup data no longer needs to pass over the network and through a NetVault: Backup Server in order to be written to a tape-based device. SmartClients are an optimal solution for multiple clients with large amounts of data, or for remotely controlling backup operations of branch offices.
Dynamically Shared Devices
NetVault: Backup’s Dynamically Shared Device (DSD) technology enables stand-alone tape drives and/or tape drives in libraries to be dynamically shared among NetVault: Backup Clients in SAN and shared-SCSI environments. DSD optimises backup data transfers while reducing the number of single points of failures.
