Scalable Product Family Architecture

The WhatsUp Gold core product architecture is a framework that provides a scalable set of services, meeting the requirements of both SMBs and Enterprises for predictive management and monitoring of critical network and IT infrastructures, right out-of-the-box. There is no need to deploy separate services (such as polling engines or probes) at significant extra cost to enable scalability.

Network Monitoring

WhatsUp Gold provides full support for SNMP and WMI network management. And with WhatsUp Gold's capability to monitor down to the individual interface level providing support for both 32 bit and 64 bit counters, even the highest speed interfaces can be monitored without losing critical data. Note there is no WMI support in WhatsUp Gold Standard.

WhatsUp Gold lets you quickly add monitors with just a mouse click. Fully customisable high-performance monitors are available for any device, system or service. Monitor types include: Active, Passive, Performance, Thresholds – minimum and maximum, Customer defined, Active script performance monitors (jscript and vbscript)

Network Management Interfaces

Access to up-to the second data and system status is extremely important to network managers, but if you can’t make sense of the data, what good is it. WhatsUp Gold’s flexible management interfaces, both Windows and web consoles, transform the data into actionable intelligence and set the standard for usability and flexibility. By consolidating all information in a NOC-based centralized location, WhatsUp Gold presents a clear and concise picture of any size network and application infrastructure and makes it immediately available to the network manager. Workspaces and dashboards can be configured and individualised to meet the requirements of both SMBs and enterprises for configuration, monitoring, alerting and reporting.

Network Discovery and Network Mapping

WhatsUp Gold's automated and rapid device discovery using wizard-based tools simplifies and makes discovery fool-proof, no matter the size or complexity of the network, in minutes. No need for stand-alone tools to manually document your network. If it is connected it will be found, legitimate or rogue. Regularly scheduled discovery scans can be configured to find assets or services added after the initial scan. WhatsUp Gold supports discovery by IP, SNMP Smart Scan, Network Neighbourhood and Hosts file import. From there it is possible to map the network with 360 degree visibility with hierarchical maps.

Secure and Role-based Network Management

WhatsUp Gold also gives you complete control over what authorised users can and cannot do. Via role-based network management, you can set access rights so that your server team can only manage servers, your network infrastructure team has rights to networking gear, your senior management has access to pertinent reports, and as network manager you can oversee everything.

Network Alerts, Alarms and Notifications

WhatsUp Gold Standard

WhatsUp Gold Standard is designed for small and medium businesses. It provides the basic functionality needed for effective network management and monitoring. The Standard edition supports SNMP v1-3 monitoring on Windows, Unix and Linux with IPV4 and IPV6 support and comes with fully functional Windows and Web based interfaces that make it easy to discover devices, configure alerts and reports and display dashboards.

WhatsUp Gold Premium

WhatsUp Gold Premium, for any sized business, includes advanced reporting capabilities such as Split Second Graphs that provide real-time graphical data along with preconfigured active and passive monitors. The Premium edition supports Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), Microsoft's solution for management data and operations - which makes it easy to monitor applications such as Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange. Additionally the Premium edition supports Unix and Linux server monitoring and actions (via SSH), Wireless Access Point (WAP) Monitor and HTTP/HTTPS/FTP synthetic transaction monitoring.

WhatsUp Gold Distributed

Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold Flow Publisher provides system administrators with insight into the traffic usage of their network devices, even if are not natively flow enabled, by capturing the raw traffic from the network and converting it into standard NetFlow records.

WhatsUp Gold WhatsConfigured provides network configuration and change management control for network devices. Ensure that your network is well configured and that the configuration data is protected by backing up (and restoring) device configuration files.

WhatsVirtual

Enables you to more easily monitor virtual machines using the powerful WhatsUp Gold Windows and Web consoles. Auto discover virtual machines, add performance monitors to any virtual machines, add action monitors to shutdown, reset and take snapshots of virtual machines, report on both host and guest machine resource allocation and more. WhatsVirtual supports VMware ESX 3.0 and later, VMware ESXi 3.5 and later and any edition of WhatsUp Gold 14.2 or later.

Failover

By installing a WhatsUp Gold primary server and a WhatsUp Gold secondary server (secondary server requires a failover licence of the same device count and edition as the primary server) you can use the Failover Manager to setup and control failovers. When the user-defined WhatsUp Gold services fail on the primary server, the secondary server takes over polling devices. You can then set the primary server to take over when it comes back up, or set it as the secondary server for bi-directional failover and failback.
