GFI EmailProtection Suite

Published By:

GFI

The GFI EmailProtection Suite helps administrators archive corporate email, increase available storage on the server, reduce their dependency on PST files and allow staff to access old and deleted emails. This is achieved using GFI MailArchiver, while the combination of GFI MailEssentials and GFI MailSecurity ensures that all inbound email is rendered clean of spam and safe from viruses or malware respectively.

Features

GFI MailArchiver

Reduce storage costs

GFI MailArchiver compresses and decompresses attachments on the fly, which results in considerable savings in terms of storage when compared to storing attachments in the Exchange stores.

End PST headaches

Using GFI MailArchiver for Exchange eliminates the need for users to archive their mail in PST files on local hard disks. With GFI MailArchiver, users can browse to the web search interface and retrieve past email from the database, rather than having to dig through a store of PST files on disk to find a particular email.

Tight integration with Exchange

GFI MailArchiver leverages the journaling feature of Exchange Server, providing excellent scalability and reliability. Other email archiving solutions actually replace the email with a link to their database – this can be a point of failure and can bring down your entire email system. GFI MailArchiver works in parallel and does not touch the way Exchange works. GFI MailArchiver can be used with Exchange as well as other email servers with the capability of polling emails from a mail server which supports IMAP and Active Directory.

Outlook integration, stub-free technology

Integration with Outlook means that archived email can be accessed from Outlook as if it were in users Exchange mailbox or local PST file. GFI MailArchiver users can now enjoy a faster and more improved experience than many archiving solutions that leave a small stub file in place of the archived message which, accordingly to Microsoft, creates problems for administrators in terms of server performance as small portions of the emails are still left in the Exchange Server store. GFI MailArchiver provides Outlook integration without stubbing whilst also full real-time synchronisation of all folders/mails in the Exchange mailbox.

Automatically archive corporate email into one storage area

Your mail server is not the ideal place to store all organisational email; moving old emails into a database will keep your mail server performance high and email stores compact. Moreover, with GFI MailArchiver there is no need to create and roll over to new archive stores based on SQL Express and NTFS. The automatic archive management feature ensures that data rolls over to a new archive automatically at a time defined by the administrator.

Server-based anti-spam and anti-phishing

GFI MailEssentials is server-based and installs on the mail server or at the gateway, eliminating the deployment and administration hassle of desktop-based anti-spam and anti-phishing products.

SpamRazer – A powerful anti-spam engine

SpamRazer is a powerful anti-spam engine that has been designed for ease-of-use. Due to frequent updates, SpamRazer needs no tweaking to be fully effective in filtering the latest spam attacks. Not only will administrators benefit from out-of-the-box filtering but they will also gain protection from each new attack without the need to tweak GFI MailEssentials. With SpamRazer filtering, greylisting, IP reputation filtering, Bayesian filtering and other advanced anti-spam technologies, the spam capture rate is over 99%. GFI MailEssentials also has an enviable low rate of false positives ensuring the safe delivery of important emails.

Greylisting

Greylisting is an anti-spam technique used to identify and block spam emails originating from non-RFC compliant mail servers (which are often utilised by spammers). For each new SMTP transmission, GFI MailEssentials records the sender, recipient and sending mail server’s IP address (known as a triplet), and also rejects emails with a temporary failure message. Compliant email servers normally try and resend the message after a few minutes – this causes their triplet to be confirmed, and connections with the same triplet are no longer rejected. Non-compliant mail servers do not try to resend the message.

Bayesian filtering technology

GFI’s Bayesian filter uses an advanced mathematical formula and a dataset which is ‘custom-created’ for your installation: The spam data is continuously updated by GFI and is automatically downloaded by GFI MailEssentials In short, Bayesian filtering has the following advantages:

  • Looks at the whole spam message, not just keywords or known spam signatures
  • Learns from your outbound mail (ham) and reduces false positives
  • Adapts itself over time by learning about new spam and new valid mail
  • Dataset is unique to your company, making it impossible to bypass
  • Multilingual and international.

Intelligent automatic whitelist management reduces false positives

Whitelists enable you to ensure that mail from particular senders or domains are never flagged as spam, permitting more stringent anti-spam rules. GFI MailEssentials includes an automatic whitelist management tool, which automatically adds mail recipients to your whitelist. This reduces false positives without any need for additional administration.

Protect your users against the menace of phishing emails

GFI MailEssentials’ anti-phishing module detects and blocks threats posed by phishing emails by comparing the content of the spam with a constantly updated database of phishing URLs, thereby ensuring all the latest phishing emails are captured. As extra protection, it also looks for typical phishing keywords in every email sent to your organisation.

And much more...

GFI MailSecurity

Norman and BitDefender virus engines are included

GFI MailSecurity is bundled with Norman Virus Control and BitDefender. Norman is an industrial strength virus engine that has received the 100% Virus Bulletin award over 30 times running. The Norman Sandbox analyses the behavior of suspicious files in cases where signature-based analysis falls short. BitDefender is a very fast and flexible award-winning antivirus engine that can recognise and scan a strikingly wide range of formats. GFI MailSecurity automatically checks and updates the engines’ definition files as they become available. The GFI MailSecurity price includes updates for one year.

Kaspersky, McAfee and AVG (optional)

To achieve even greater security, users can add the Kaspersky, McAfee and/or AVG antivirus engines as a third, fourth or fifth antivirus engine or as a replacement to one of the other engines. AVG also gives you the option of using LinkScanner to analyse suspicious hyperlinks in email bodies.

Trojan and executable analyser

GFI MailSecurity’s trojan and executable scanner detects unknown malicious executables (for example, trojans) by analysing what an executable does.

Spyware detection

GFI MailSecurity’s trojan and executable analyser can recognise malicious files including spyware and adware. GFI MailSecurity can also detect spyware transmitted by email via the Kaspersky virus engine (optional) which incorporates a dedicated spyware and adware definition file that has an extensive database of known spyware, trojans and adware.

Attachment checking

GFI MailSecurity’s attachment checking rules enable administrators to quarantine attachments based on user and file type. For example, all executable attachments can be quarantined for administrator review before they are distributed to the user. GFI MailSecurity can also scan for information leaks, for example, an employee emailing a database. You can also choose to delete attachments like .MP3 or .mpg files.

Automatic removal of HTML scripts

The advent of HTML email has made it possible for hackers and virus attackers to trigger commands by embedding them in the HTML. GFI MailSecurity checks for script code in the body of an email message disabling these commands before sending the cleaned email on.

GFI MailSecurity ReportPack

From trend reports for management (ROI) to daily drill-down reports for technical staff, the GFI MailSecurity ReportPack provides you with the easy-to-view information you need to fully understand your email security patterns.

Granular user-based email content policies/filtering

Using GFI MailSecurity’s powerful content policies rules engine, you can configure rule sets based on user and keywords that allow you to quarantine potentially dangerous content for administrator approval. In this way, GFI MailSecurity can also scan for offensive content.

Web based configuration for remote management

The web-based configuration allows you to configure and monitor the product as well as to manage quarantined emails remotely from any computer with a browser. That means that you can monitor and manage GFI MailSecurity from anywhere in the world.
