DevComplete
Published By:
DevComplete helps you improve your software quality by clearly defining project requirements and tracking progress of developments tasks. It helps you spot and correct project slippage by inspecting burn down and task progress. And it analyses defects and task variances to ensure your team delivers a quality release.
The software supports the goals of project management (scope, schedule, and budget), by knowing your status, effort (such as the time to implement a low-priority requirement), and cost (what does it take to implement requirements?). It’s suited to anyone in the development team, not just a project manager, since really, you’re all responsible for creating “shippable” software at the end of a sprint or development cycle.

Features
Project Management
DevComplete includes simple to use and flexible project management for development teams that want to stay on track. Whether you are using Waterfall or Agile, DevComplete has all the project management functionality you need to stay agile to changing schedules.
- Easily create project plans through the web-based GUI.
- Wizard-based project plan creation allows time tracking against existing requirements and defects.
- Assign tasks, set estimated hours, and set predecessors so work is accomplished in a sensible order (and nobody has to sit around, idle, waiting for someone else to finish).
- Use pre-designed templates for common software development tasks, or design your own.
- Manage work schedules. Specify working hours for each employee and vacation schedules, and apply standard (all employees) and individual resource calendars.
- Security features control who can access project plans.
- Tasks move, just like in the real world. Move tasks from one project plan to another, or from one Agile sprint to another (such as when a sprint didn’t complete every task).
- Gantt charts show dependencies of tasks and progress.
- Numerous reports and dashboards help you visualise progress (estimated and actual), displaying project burn downs, timesheets, project and assignee variance reports, resource allocation, and more.
- A Microsoft Project plug-in allows importing and exporting project plans from DevComplete and Microsoft Project.
Requirements Management
No matter which development methodology your team uses, DevComplete helps you manage the projects’ requirements. DevComplete helps you define requirements for each release and schedule it for the right release. Workflow configuration allows you to see whether requirements are being met, and track them through user-definable statuses.
- Link source code with artifacts from the software lifecycle, including requirements and defects.
- Govern the workflow and state transitions driven by statuses. Using workflow, you can force design reviews, approvals, and test reviews.
- Set state transition rules defining how one status may transition to another status.
- Developers are normally specialists. Set auto assignment rules that can assign defects to developers based on the functional area. Team members can receive email alerts as things are assigned to them.
- Attach documents such as detail designs, specifications, and prototypes to any requirement, and version those documents. Add notes to the requirement, allowing the team to discuss requirement changes.
- View an audit history of everything that changes in the software requirements, who made the change, its date and time, and before-and-after values.
- An extensive set of metrics illuminate issues with the requirements definition (such as missing test cases), using standard or ad-hoc dashboards and reports.
Defect and Issue Tracking
Keeping an eye on any software project means you need to know what’s going on with every software requirement, including the bugs reported and who’s working to fix them. DevComplete lets you track status and resolution progress for each release.
Your company or department may already have standardised on a bug-tracking tool. No problem. DevComplete works with Atlassian JIRA, HP Quality Center, RallyDev, Version One, Microsoft TFS, Bugzilla, and other web-based defect tracking tools. You can tie together your project management efforts in DevComplete with whatever is implemented within your organisation.
- Track defects and issues to resolution.
- Development teams can coordinate activities as bugs are found.
- Audit history of all changes to defects, threaded team discussion notes, add attachments to any defect.
- Source code integration can associate source code with fixed defects.
- Defect reports and dashboards show defects by severity, priority, or other criteria you choose.
Bi-Directional Traceability
By pulling requirements onto a project plan, you can make better estimates when you decompose those requirements into discrete deliverables. As team members log time towards tasks you have linked to requirements, the requirement time tracking elements (percentage complete, date started and ended, estimated and actual hours) are automatically updated. You get complete traceability between requirements and tasks, and fewer “Oh no!' moments.
- A project plan wizard makes it a snap to associate requirements with a project plan.
- With one click, see a traceability report showing all linkages to a particular requirement.
Seamless Integration with other ALM tools
If your team has already sunk costs into an existing requirements or defect management tools, it may be difficult to convince your team to switch. With DevComplete, you don’t have to switch. DevComplete can seamlessly integrate with many defect and ALM tools including Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS), HP Quality Center, IBM Rational Doors, IBM Rational RequisitePro, Rational Team Concert, Atlassian JIRA, Rally, Version One, Bugzilla, and Accept 360. If you are using any of these tools for defect or requirements management, you can enter defects or requirements in DevComplete and automatically sync them to the other system. Likewise, if you add or update items in the other system, it can automatically sync those changes to DevComplete.
Seamless Integration with Source Control Systems
Associating defects and requirements with source code provides great traceability, allowing you to quickly discover troublesome code and requirements that required the most re-work. Using the DevComplete SCM integrators, you can associate defects or requirements when checking in source code. The following SCM systems are supported: Subversion, Perforce, CVS, and Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS).
Extensive Reporting for All Development Activities
DevComplete provides an array of analysis tools. Status screens, dashboards, and reports help you stay on track, better plan your next release, and answer the most pressing questions about your software development projects. For example:
- Improve project management skills by tracking project progress, variances, and slipping tasks.
- Get visibility into the requirements delivered for each release, as well as the defects that were discovered and repaired.
- Learn who is under- or over-allocated with work, with the “just right' amount of granularity. Click the graph to get further details, print, export to Word, Excel or PDF, or email the results.
- Review team and project variances, so you can learn from each project and improve future estimates.
- Review slipping tasks to ensure the team members who need help get help.
- Review velocity charts to determine daily trend of estimated work, actual hours logged, and estimated time remaining.
- Review burn down charts to determine if your team will complete the project on the projected completion date.
Flexible Licensing Model
DevComplete SaaS licensing offering allows you to focus on your core business activities while keeping costs down. Using DevComplete online means you don’t have to mess with server configuration, hardware support, or other data center annoyances. As soon as you sign up, you can get to work.
For those who prefer to host the software rather than run in the cloud, or are unable to use a SaaS model, there is also an on-premise option. Both are backed by outstanding and friendly support staff.
Web-Based User Interface
DevComplete has a Web interface. Nothing needs to be installed on your hard drive.
- As long as you have an Internet connection, you can access DevComplete from home or anywhere in the world.
- Distributed and offshore teams can easily share development artifacts with one another and local teams.
- Supports all major browsers, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, and Google Chrome.
