How DESlock+ works

All Windows file access is carried out by the file-system. This is where the core component of DESlock+ scans the files being used by your computer in a similar way to anti-virus software. Instead of looking for viruses, DESlock+ is examining the origin and destination of the data passing through the Windows file-system; encrypting and decrypting silently, whenever necessary.

All of which makes working with DESlock+ a seamless experience.

About Encryption Keys

Most Data Security tools work on a one (unique) key per user basis. Which makes sense to start with, but the longer you work with this type of system, the more restrictive it becomes.

DESlock+ allows the user to create new encryption keys and exchange keys securely with other users. A software key-file or USB Token can store up to 64 different encryption keys.

The way people share physical keys to allow access to homes, businesses, vehicles etc is understood implicitly. Applying the same principle to computer files and email, it's easy to see how shared encryption keys make complete sense.

Which Algorithm?

DESlock+ associates encryption algorithms with keys in the keyfile or DK5 USB Token. When the user creates a new key, the type is selected from AES, Blowfish or Triple DES. From then on, whenever a particular encryption key is selected, its associated algorithm is automatically employed.

• Triple DES: A multiple application of the Data Encryption Standard Algorithm.
• AES Advanced Encryption Standard: supercedes the previous Data Encryption Standard.
• Blowfish A secure and fast block-cipher widely recognised and understood, by studying and qualified cryptologists.
