Visual Studio 2010 support

XMLSpy fully works with Visual Studio 2010.

Extended schema validation support (Enterprise only)

Developers can now add additional validation rules to validate element and attribute tags in XML documents, for example, to check that all elements are completely lower case. Additional coding conventions can also be added when you need more complex rules, for example to check that XML schema type definitions are explicitly defined as opposed to implicitly.

Sample XML data for XML instance generation

XMLSpy can now create sample data values (that conform with your XML schema rules) when you generate XML instances. The sample data that gets added can be completely controlled - for example populate from a pre-defined list randomly, by cycling through or by just using the first entry.

New in XMLSpy 2010 R2

Released February 16th, the 2010 R2 release focuses on performance improvements and enhanced platform support:

64-bit support

• Now you can use Altova XMLSpy natively on 64-bit systems for improved performance when working with the largest files. Note: There is no 64-bit version of XMLSpy 2010 R2 Standard - that will continue to be 32-bit only. However you can still run the 32-bit version on 64-bit Windows operating systems but not vice versa

Improved performance

• Performance optimisations when working with large files in the Text/Grid views (10MB and larger files)
• Improved speed of XML schema validation - up to three times faster in Text view

Support for Microsoft SharePoint

• Load and save files into Microsoft SharePoint Server workspaces, supports check-in/check-out/undo checkout versioning functionality

Miscellaneous updates

• Support for Linux in generated C++ code to compile and run C++ code on Linux (code generation capabilities in Enterprise Edition only)
• Any SOAP Web Service requests, including from the SOAP debugger, can now use HTTPS URLs as well as HTTP URLs for enhanced security (Enterprise Edition only).

Released at the end of October 2009, the 2010 release is a major upgrade:

WSDL 2.0 Support (Enterprise edition)

• Create, edit and validate WSDL (Web Service Definition Language) 1.1 and now 2.0 using the included visual editor. Drag and drop elements to create the WSDL definition files and convert your old WSDL 1.1 definitions to WSDL 2.0.

Enhanced XBRL Support (Enterprise edition)

• Document generation - generate documentation on your XBRL from the XBRL taxonomy editor. Choose exactly what you wish to document and export the documentation to HTML, Word or RTF formats
• XBRL Taxonomy Wizard - Use the XBRL Taxonomy Wizard, in conjunction with the XBRL Taxonomy Editor to more easily extend an existing XBRL taxonomy or even create a new taxonomy
• XBRL printing - Print the graphical view of your XBRL taxonomy exactly as it's displayed in the visual application
• Find and Sort - Search the XBRL taxonomy or document to find a specific phrase and sort the XBRL file by elements, substitution group or type to find exactly what you're looking for.

JSON Support (Enterprise/Professional editions)

• New JSON editor enables easy editing of JSON files in Text and Grid views similar to those of the XML editor. Includes complete support for syntax highlighting, line numbering, source folding, book marking, find and replace and more
• Quickly convert your XML to JSON or vice versa

Improved scripting environment (Enterprise/Professional editions)

• Access most of the .NET Framework functionality to add to and modify functionality in XMLSpy
• New controls to add to custom forms
• Create macros and run, test and debug them in the script editor
• Improved entry-helpers and auto-completion in the script editor

Licensing

Installed User Licence

Install and use the Altova software of any PC up to the number of licenses purchased. For example, if you purchase a 5 User Installed License, you may install and run the Software on 5 machines and all 5 users can use the software at any given point in time.

Named User Licence

Per each Named User Licence, one individual may install and use the Altova software on up to 5 computers, provided they are the sole user of the software and are not using more than one copy at any one time.

Concurrent User Licence

Install the Altova software on any number of PC's up to 10 times the number of licenses purchased, provided that only the permitted numbers of users use the software at the same time.

For example, if you purchase a 5 User Concurrent License, you may install the Software on up to 50 machines (Permitted Number of Users 5 multiplied by 10 = 50). Although the Software maybe installed on up to 50 machines, only 5 users may use the software at any given point in time

Subscriptions

Purchase of the Altova Support and Maintenance Package (SMP) provides you with a range of benefits including free updates and technical support.

SMP provides:

• Free access to new releases and maintenance updates during your active subscription period (specific to the product (s) you own).
• Priority technical support via a web-based support form. Typical response times are 1-2 business days within Europe.
• Mechanism to report bugs and software faults directly to Altova.

SMP is available as either a yearly purchase, or a 2 year purchase and must be purchased at the same time, or within 30 days, of purchasing an Altova product. SMP can be renewed but must be done so before your existing subscription expires (up to 90 days in advance). It is strongly recommended that you purchase SMP with your product.
