New Features

What's new in Acronis Backup & Recovery 11?

Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 includes a wide range of new features and improvements from usability studies as well as feedback from the field. Please note, not all new features are applicable to all editions.

Disaster Recovery and Data Protection in one unified solution

  • Catalog and search capabilities give you granular access to specific data within a backup, so you get the benefits of bare-metal restore and backup in one product
  • The unified platform dovetails seamlessly with Acronis’ granular application recovery modules such as for Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Integrated tape management improves support for tape and tape autoloaders, allowing you to store, replicate or stage backups to tape – either image, file or application.

Improved core-disaster recovery

  • Acronis Universal Restore for Linux extends the award-winning Acronis Universal Restore technology to Linux systems, allowing you to recover to dissimilar hardware
  • Universal Restore bootability lets Acronis Universal Restore technology make Windows or Linux bootable again after replacing hardware
  • Backup and recovery of systems that use UEFI/GPT
  • Full support for new disk with 4K sectors and SSD
  • Backup and recovery of Linux systems that use LVM
  • Take advantage of hardware built-in snapshot to offload processing from production servers

Reduce long-term storage costs with staging, and add redundancy with multi-destination

  • Move old backups to tape (D2D2T) or to less expensive disk (D2D2D)
  • Store multiple backups locally and remotely on disk and in the cloud
  • Back up to the cloud directly (D2C) or indirectly (D2D2C1)
  • Improved deduplication performance, capacity and scalability offers you even greater savings

Improved support for virtualised environment

  • Simultaneous backup of multiple virtual machines, even served with the same agent, allows you to shorten the backup window
  • Windows agent for ESX(i), an alternative to ESX(i) virtual appliance, lets you offload backup traffic from ESX(i) hosts to a dedicated Windows machine and achieve real LAN-free backup
  • Load balancing between ESX(i) agents automatically distributes tasks between a number of agents to optimise performance. One virtual appliance or agent may serve as many ESX(i) hosts as required, and more agents may be added when needed.
  • Hyper-V clusters and CSV support lets you benefit from agent-less virtual-machine backup even in clustered Hyper-V environments
  • Improved Instant Restore shortens recovery time by only applying incremental changes and allows for better RPO

More management options

  • New alerts with email notifications provide you with a complete list of problems, such as task failures and warnings, such as low disk space
  • Configure a backup plan on one machine, export it to an XML file and import it on other machines
  • Vault permissions give better control over who can access what data in the vaults
  • New command-line interface will be handy for companies looking for automation and integration

Features

Included components

  • Agent for ESX(i) - Agent-less backup of VMware vSphere ESX/ESXi machines.
  • Agent for Hyper-V - Agent-less backup of Microsoft Hyper-V machines.
  • Agent for Windows - Alternatively to agent-less backup – install agent in Windows virtual machine to backup and recovery the machine.
  • Agent for Linux - Alternatively to agent-less backup – install agent in Linux virtual machine to backup and recovery the machine.
  • Bootable Media - Alternatively for agent-less restore or of physical machines – create CD, DVD or USB flash drive to boot machine from in a case of disaster and perform bare metal recovery.
  • Management Console - Remotely manage all agents; and other components.
  • Management Server - Single point of centralized management. Controls and monitors backup across all machines, manages storage nodes, generates alerts and reports.
  • Storage Node - Managed backups and facilitates de-duplication.
  • PXE Server - Allows booting machines from the network to bootable environment for remote restore.
  • Acronis Universal Restore - Restore machine, Windows or Linux, to dissimilar hardware or hypervisors.

One solution for physical, virtual and cloud

Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 allows centralised management of physical and virtual machines from the same console, with the same backup plans, and with the same instruments. Avoid a need to manage various poorly integrated solutions for different environments.

Centralised management

Manage backup and recovery of your virtual machines, as well as physical machines from a single place, with support for machine grouping – static or dynamic, centralised rule-based backup plans, and extensive monitoring and reporting capabilities.

One license of unlimited number of virtual machines

One flat license fee for all virtual machines on a host, regardless of the number of CPUs allows saving on licensing cost and simplifying purchase and licenses management.

Unlimited migrations included

Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Virtual Edition license also includes unlimited number of migrate to or from a host. Virtualise, migrate between different hypervisors or move critical servers back to physical flexibly - whenever it is required; and with minimum downtime.

Agent-less backup and recovery

The single agent for VMware ESX(i) or Hyper-V manages all the virtual machines on the host, cutting administration overhead substantially.

Instant Restore

Additionally, you can maximise availability by automating the recovery process to recover to dissimilar hardware or to a virtual machine with Acronis Instant Restore.
